The Hon. Justice Emmanuel O’Kubasu was born on 4th August 1945 in Kisa (then under Kakamega District). He was brought up in Nairobi and in 1954 joined D.E.B Bahati (now Heshima Road Primary School). At Standard Four he sat what was then known as Common Entrance Examination in November, 1957 and was admitted to Government African School Pumwani in Standard Five in January, 1958. He proceeded to Thika High School where he sat for both 'O' and 'A' levels rising to become the Head Prefeect in Form Six while working for Voice of Kenya as an announcer and script writer. In 1967, he was employed by Highlands Produce Ltd as an assistant manager before joining the University of East Africa in Dar es Salaam in 1968 to study law.
