Son of Noah Wanyama of AFC McDonald Mariga, Kenya's sensational football superstar now in top flight club soccer in Europe comes from a family blessed with sporting prowess. His father, Noah Wanyama was a dashing winger for Abaluhya FC (renamed AFC Leopards) in the 70's and 80's. His brother, Thomas Wanyama plays for Kenyan national champs, Sofapaka while another brother, Victor Mugabe plays professional football in Belgium. And the Wanyama girls have not been left behind either. Although only 17, Mercy Wanyama, a Lang'ata High School student, is captain of the school basketball team and overall games captain. |

First Luhya journalist: Did you know that WWW Awori was the first known Luhya journalist? Awori edited the Indian-owned Swahili weekly Habari in I945 then moved on to edit Sauti ya Mwafrika before establishing his own paper in 1948 known as Radio Posta which began as a Swahili weekly and developed into a daily. In 1945 Awori also began a Luhya newspaper, Omuluhya, which lasted until 1947. The Maragoli Society started Mulina was Vosi in 1949. In 1950 Avaluhya Times was established and Omwemeli Wabaluhya in 1952. |
