Ingosi Moshi

All he has done for 65 years is play music. Mzee William Ingosi Moshi is largely credited with popularising the Luhya anthem Mwanambeli among Kenyans.  Ingosi performed many times for Kenya’s first president, Jomo Kenyatta, in the 1960s, first at Gatundu and later at several state houses and lodges. He founded the Ingosi Cultural Band in 1960 and had the enviable chance of playing Mwanambeli at independence in 1963. He is a founder musician of Bomas of Kenya and has travelled to Japan, France, United Kingdom and Holland for performances. Last month, the 72 year-old from Bulukhova sub location, Tiriki received a Head of State Commendation, a fitting cap in his illustrious career spanning six decades.
