The Royal Commonwealth Society invites you to a panel debate:
Kenya: What Route to Peace?
Wednesday 20 February, 6pm
At the Commonwealth Club, 25 Northumberland Avenue, London WC2N 5AP
Speakers:Joseph Warungu, Editor, Focus on Africa and Network Africa, BBC World Service John O. Oucho, Marie Cure Chair, Centre for Research in Ethnic Relations, Warwick University Max Caller CBE, Member of Commonwealth Observer Group for Kenya 2007, and Electoral Commissioner, UK Wangui wa Goro, Writer, translator and human rights activist* Patrick Smith, Editor, Africa Confidential and Africa-Asia Confidential* Chair: Laurence Cockcroft, Chairman, Transparency International UK* The post-election violence and political deadlock in Kenya has shocked the world.
Due to the urgency of the humanitarian and political crisis engulfing Kenya, the RCS is hosting this debate to bring together experts to discuss issues surrounding the crisis and debate strategies for resolution and rehabilitation.
In light of the historical foundations to the current crisis, this debate will ask: what is the route to peace in Kenya? Should Kenya strive for peaceful compromise or truth and justice? And how can such humanitarian and political crises be prevented from recurring?
The event will also focus on the role of the Commonwealth, particularly as a promoter of democracy and of human rights, and how it can help negate the regional repercussions of this national political crisis. The role of the Commonwealth Observers Group (COG) in monitoring the Kenyan election will also be examined.
This will be a highly participative discussion, with a focus on informal roundtable debate and full audience involvement.
Admission is free but it is essential to register in advance.

Unveiling of Nelson Mandela Statue
11am Parliament Square
London
Wednesday 29th August 2007
After a 6-year relentless campaign, a statue of Nelson Mandela is finally to be placed on Parliament Square .
The Mayor of London has fought long and hard - alongside all those who supported the placing of a statue of Nelson Mandela in central London - to make sure the statue was given its rightful place in a prominent location.
Nelson Mandela's unflinching leadership of the struggle against apartheid not only succeeded in overthrowing this despicable racist system in South Africa but inspired all those struggling for justice across the world.
Come to the Square on Wednesday morning to show support and to join in celebrating this historic moment and honouring this great stateman and all those who contributed to the fight against apartheid and against racism. The bulk of the square is open to the public and there will be viewing screens.
The actual unveiling is at 11am but you are advised to arrive well in advance of that - i.e. around 10am.

This will facilitate transfer of skills through formal employment. The workshop will also highlight the value in volunteerism.
The Diaspora are playing an increasing role in diverse employment sectors in their host countries and increasingly, their home countries hence reversing the tide of the brain drain. There is however a greater need for increased and continued mobilisation and engagement of Diaspora skills in their countries / continents of origin as there exists still, needs for skills and opportunities for the Diaspora engagement.

ICT AND OUTSOURCING TO KENYA
The Kenya High Commission and the Kenya Club are organising a one-day business seminar on ICT AND OUTSOURCING TO KENYA to be held on Monday 23rd of April 2007 at 6:30pm at the Thistle Hotel, Charing Cross. Hon. Mutahi Kagwe, Minister for Information and Communication will be the main speaker. The Minister will brief the seminar on steps the Government is taking to promote and market Kenya as a fast growing outsourcing destination. The seminar is expected to be attended by representatives from the outsourcing industry in United Kingdom and Kenya ICT professionals resident in UK.
The seminar is a follow-up to the Kenya Diaspora Investment Conference held in December last year in London. It is part of the Government’s strategy to entrench Kenya’s regional-hub status through development of “call centres’’ and back office operations for data entry for the coordination of marketing and customer care activities for both local and international companies.
The Minister will also highlight measures being taken towards development of IT software and hardware industries including supply of IT associated equipment, development of new high tech service-based industries such as e-commerce, e-education, and e-agriculture. Other issues to be discussed include development of financing schemes geared at lending to ICTs specific projects and provision of consultancy services on ICTs research and development, technology, market analysis and business development.
