| Shikuku to spill all in his memoirs
By Shad Bulimo, June 10 2009 In a frank conversation with this writer, Shikuku says he joined politics as a calling and not as a means of enriching himself with material comforts. His deepest regrets: "Fighting the colonialists." The fiery ex-legislator slights the regimes of Kenyatta, Moi and Mwai Kibaki for perpetuating corruption. "It pains me when I see children dying or when families cannot afford housing, education and healthcare yet we fought for independence primarily to provide for these basics." Full interview to be published shortly. Western to get new hydro station By Cosmas Butunyi, June 10 2009 |
Champion of the hoi polloi: Former Butere member of parliament, Mr Joseph Martin Shikuku in a fellow at Wolfsong College in Cambridge where he is writing his memoirs. The fiery former legislator says he went into politics not for money but as a calling to fight for the rights of the poor. He deeply regrets fighting the colonial government because the so called 'uhuru' governments of Kenyatta, Moi and Kibaki have rigged the agenda so that the poor remain poorer and the rich grow even richer through a network of tribal cartels, corruption and nepotism. |
