30 YEARS AGO:
A POLITICIAN AND THE RAIN
March 4, 1971
30 YEARS AGO………..
It rained heavily in Kisumu and Bunyore yesterday afternoon - shortly after
former Assistant Minister for Housing Eric Khasakhala paid a surprise visit
to the famous rainmakers of Bunyore, Awiti Nganyi, in their home in
Ebusiekwe sub-location, Kakamega District.
Mr. Khasakhala gave each Sh. 100 and a raincoat and pleaded with them to
bring rain to end the peoples suffering. A delegation of women from all
over Bunyore had visited his home and urged him to see the rainmakers.
The rainmakers had earlier threatened to send the rain away for five years
since the people of Emuhaya had refused to return Mr. Khasakhala to
Parliament. After receiving the gifts the rain makers promised it would
rain heavily and rain it did.
