Babukusu are perhaps the most culturally active of all the Luhya sub tribes. They are closely related to the Abagisu (Masaba) of eastern Uganda. They take their traditions very seriously. The fervour with which Babukusu organise the circumcision jamboree can only rival the annual Rio de Janeiro Carnivore. Its main aim is to bestow the right of passage to boys into manhood.
