Luanda Town has grown in leaps and bounds to become the most urbanised part of Bunyore.

Abanyole are estimated at 250,000; the third largest Luhya sub tribe after the Bukusu and Maragoli. Legend has it that they are among the last of the Luhya subtribes to arrive in the present day Luhyaland from Uganda settling in the rather rocky 'Eluanda'.

They are related to the Nyuli (Abanyuli) of Uganda and are famous for being "rainmakers." President Jomo Kenyatta famously invited Nganyi to Gatundu in a ceremony that recognised the role of traditional "healers".

On these pages we will bring you the full history and economic endeavours of the Abanyole and debunk some of the myths associated with them such as "abandu bo musala" - people who always smoke cannabis sativa.
