INVESTMENT CLUBS AS VEHICLES FOR MOBILIZING CAPITAL FOR INVESTMENT WORKSHOP

Objectives of the workshop:
The workshop aims overall, to assist women to create an investment club through which they can generate capital for investment in the UK and in Eastern Africa, through cooperative savings.
Specifically, the workshop will:
- Discuss best in cooperative savings as well as practices that counter the development of cooperative savings initiatives.
- Discuss some of the success stories in cooperative savings in the UK and in Eastern Africa.
- Discuss the opportunities that the new constitution in Kenya provides for cooperative savings.
- Discuss concrete strategies for establishing an ACN women’s saving club.
Expected Outcomes:
1. A way forward for starting an ACN women’s investment club.
2. Identifying opportunities for investing cooperative savings in the UK and in the eastern Africa region.
Deliverables:
- A workshop report.
- A mailing list of individual women and groups for the purpose of sharing economic empowerment information.
- A strategy for cooperative saving for women under the umbrella of ACN.
Topics that will be covered:
- Advantages of cooperative saving.
- The new constitution and the opportunities for women in business.
- International/donor support to businesswomen in East Africa.
- Private sector support for women in business.
A detailed workshop programme will be e-mailed to registered participants prior to the workshop.
Speakers:
Speakers at the workshop will include:
- Leading woman academics experienced in investment cuds formation and workings.
- The trade representatives of Embassies and High Commissions of the Eat African community countries,
- Business promotion consultants and charities based in London.
Booking places.
The number of participants to the workshop is unlimited. It is open to any person of any nationality, women and men, who wish to obtain information about getting into business, and/or participate in information sharing forums about creating wealth through enterprise.
Participation is free of charge.
The programme starts at 11:00am, break for lunch at 1:30pm, and ending at 4:00pm with an informal networking session until late. This informal session will be a forum for creating useful contacts for the future.
